The Dawn Collective Melbourne CD Launch

Some old friends, The Dawn Collective from Sydney came down to Melbourne as part of their Australian tour to launch their debut album, Save A Place For Us. Although Melbourne was treated to a one night stand, the Sydney band gave the audience a riveting performance mixing diaphanous musicianship with powerful melodies at The Espy.

Septimus exhibition @ Global Gallery

I viewed the Septimus exhibition @ Global Gallery in Paddington whilst in Sydney last weekend. My former mentor Julie Sundberg showcases a select range images from a larger body of work focusing on her time in NYC during the 1980's. Also on show are six other photographers including Oculi's Tamara Voninski who also shows images of USA from the yesteryear. The show runs until Sunday the 28th of September. Check it out!

Masters of Light Workshop

I have just arrived back from a weekend in Sydney where I attended the Masters of Light workshop hosted by L & P Digital Photographic. The workshop was presented by two distinguished advertising photographers, Bryan Siebel and Stephen Stewart.

What I liked most about the workshop was listening to the production work flow behind their 'hero' images. Shame I don't have access to a cherry picker! Tethered shooting with digital medium format cameras, wireless flash triggering, the use of ring flash, bright field and dark field lighting, direction of talent, and product photography was also covered in their demonstrations.

For upcoming events @ L&P Digital Photographic follow this link.

Great Ocean Road

Last weekend I was pleasantly surprised with a mystery holiday to celebrate my birthday. Bianca had organised a weekend away on the Great Ocean Road, and it was satisfying to get away from the hustle and bustle, and relax among the confines of the coast. Thanks a bundle B!

Inspirational China

Although I have been infatuated with the Olympic Games, I have coincidentally discovered another Chinese success. Maleonn is a truly remarkable photographer from Shanghai who has an incredible body of work that reciprocates his cinematic imagination and delicate use of colour compositions. What's more is that judging by his bio pic, he may also be a fan of HellBoy (Hellboy II will be released in Australian cinemas on the 28th of August 2008) .

Don't Mess With The Pony feat. Anita George and Sal Kimber

Late last night I had the opportunity to take some promo shoots for some cool cats of Melbourne's music scene. With banjo, drum, and buck loads of personality on hand the girls delivered a fine performance. On a typical winter's night Melbourne's cold weather didn't disappoint and thus made this photo shoot short and sweet. Special thanks to the Ben Differding for providing comical relief on the night and Mitch Bear for the referral.
